Canadian petroleum company Gran Tierra Energy confirmed successful completion of testing on an exploration well in Llanos Basin, according to a company press release.
Testing on the Melero-1 exploration well in the Garibay block began on June 22, 2011 and reached a depth of 9,748 feet July 16. Four drill stem tests were performed and produced an average of 922 barrels of oil per day with a 0.3% cut of water. The petroleum has an API gravity of 16.8 degrees. This well is currently suspended for long-term testing.
In a joint venture between Gran Tierra Energy and CEPSA Colombia S.A. an oil discovery was made in the Jilguero-2 appraisal well, also in the Garibay Block. The joint venture is in the process of acquiring 49.7 square miles of 3D seismic data to assist with the evaluation of other structures on the block.
The oil and gas exploration company, whose headquarters are in Calgary, Canada, also has interests in Argentina, Peru and recently announced a new oil discovery in Neuqen Basin in Argentina.
