Colombian coalition party De La U on Thursday proposes to extend the presidential term from four to five years.
According to Representative to the House Wilson Gomez, four years are not enough for a government to carry out its plans.
“Understanding that a country should be managed as a business and not like a political institution, it is necessary that a term does not depend on a few such short years,” the congressmen was quoted as saying by newspaper El Espectador.
“Five years would be in balance for the reason that Colombia in recent years has matured politically and has shown through the last two administrations (of former President Alvaro Uribe) that a good management deserves to have a better chance,” Gomez said.
The Representative said he will officially propose a bill on extending the presidential term on February 7.
