Colombia’s government announces that all governors must take action to aid flood victims within a week, or they will be replaced, according to a government press release.
“By [next] Wednesday, if the governor has not designated an operator and signed agreements to facilitate access to resources and humanitarian support, they will be replaced by the National Committee,” said Minister of the Interior and Justice German Vargas Lleras.
Lleras announced that the success of the work to be done in the areas affected by 2010’s rainy season depends largely on achieving decentralization and the delegation of tasks.
So far, Colombia has distributed $309 million to departments most affected by the rain.
