Colombia’s government announced it has designated over $550 million to retired forces to meet claims of inadequate pay, reported Caracol Radio Friday.
The government responded to demands presented by retired police members for previous adjustments made to their salaries, as well as to demands made by military members who claim they were not paid adequately.
Fernando Carrillo, director of the State Defense agency, said that to fulfill the demands they now only have to wait for Colombia’s council to give the green light.
Defense Minister Juan Carlos Pinzon also explained that once the council gives a sentence meeting the demands, they will begin a process of reconciliation with both retired military and police members.
“This plan proposes $550 million dollars in extraordinary resources dedicated to various benefits. For example, in military and police health matters nearly $200 million will be invested between this year and 2014, which will have an effect on 765,000 users,” said Pinzon.
