The Colombian government has evidence that links controversial
investment company DMG to drug trafficking, coalition partner Partido
de la U says. Inconvenient for the political party is that the same DMG
was responsible for the logistics of its referendum about President
Álvaro Uribe’s re-election.
After a meeting with the President Tuesday morning and without showing the evidence, coalition member Partido de la U said the government has audio and video proving DMG is linked to drug trafficking, which was later confirmed by Congress president Hernán Andrade (Conservative Party).
According to the Presidency, the evidence was sent to the Prosecution.
Less than two hours later, opposition party Polo Democrático denounced that DMG, the company accused of having drug links was the same company that voluntarily provided the logistics needed for the referendum demanding the possibility to re-elect Uribe. The referendum was organized by the same Partido de La U that earlier claimed DMG was involved with drug trafficking.
De la U secretary Luis Guillermo Giraldo later confirmed one of DMG’s daughter companies had been responsible for the transport of votes, but stressed there had never been direct contact with DMG itself.
