Colombian President Álvaro Uribe and Defense Minister Juan Manuel
Santos Thursday announced rigid measures to stop human rights violations
committed by the Colombian armed forces.
“In every division, brigade or battalion of the army and in each region or police command there will be a delegate from teh highest authorities to control and to inspect, whose talks will be to receive complaints of possible abuses made by the Armed Forces,” Uribe announced.
The measure will be implemented immediately after the appointment of the officials.
The delegates will be assigned to receive any complaint any civilian has about irregularities within the particular military institution he is assigned to.
The delegates will then weekly report to the President himself about the received complaints, he said.
