“I was in my office 5:30 in the morning,” said the governor, “and it’s just not fair that my colleagues arrive here late. Especially after just having had an eight day holiday.”Amongst the latecomers there was a wide variety of excuses of this day’s tardyness. “I was waiting for the waterman to arrive” said Martha González, who works for Internal Control, “when he hadn’t shown up at 6 I had to wash with a bucket and soap. That’s why I arrived five minutes later”. Rigoberto Castro, arriving at 7:07 AM, noted on arrival the clock on his laptop was 8 minutes behind.What strikes the governor is that also the employers that do arrive on time do very little work. “The vast mayority of the ladies come in, leave their purse and go for a walk. You can see them in cafetarias drinking coffee or in the icecream shop.” he says.Barreto plans to do more to fight his personnel’s tardyness. Repeated offenders will be punished, he warns.
