The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) hosts a meeting in Bogota for counter-terrorism experts from across the globe to discuss tactics and share experiences.
It is the second such meeting organized by the UNODC following talks held last May in Vienna. The discussions began Wednesday and will conclude Thursday, reports EFE.
The experts hail from 13 different countries, including Colombia, that are considered to have “more experience in these matters,” said Mauro Miedico, the coordinator of the Terrorism Prevention branch of the UNODC.
Speaking to the press Miedico urged governments to place care of victims at the center of counter-terrorism policy and said that recent attacks have prompted a greater emphasis upon those affected by terrorism.
The meeting is aimed at improving anti-terrorism laws and victim support, as well as discussing the topics of nuclear terrorism, terrorist financing and maritime terrorism.
The remaining experts come from: Argentina, Algeria, Colombia, Egypt, Spain, the U.S., France, the Netherlands, Indonesia, Peru, the U.K., Sri Lanka and Germany.
