Garcia Marquez sends message of support to Santos

Colombia’s most famous novelist, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, sent a letter of support and solidarity to new President Juan Manuel Santos and predicted a time of prosperity in their country, reports El Tiempo.

The author of “One Hundred Years of Solitude,” who resides in Mexico, met with Santos in Mexico City in July, and discussed the state of Colombia.

The two prominent Colombians have enjoyed a long friendship.

Marquez has lived in Pedregal de San Angel, a volcanic area near Mexico City famed for its unique landscapes, since the 1980s when the writer was forced to leave his homeland of Colombia for fear of political persecution
