Colombian cyclist Leonard Duque finished fourth in stage ten of the
Tour de France, as only three riders were better in the final sprint.
The tenth stage, from Limoges to Issoudun, was completed at an extremely relaxed pace as the peloton protested against the ban on communication aids, which kept them from being in touch with their team managers. This ban is introduced as a test during two stages in this Tour.
A front group was allowed to create a considerable advantage over the pack, but was eventually caught with second kilometers to go. In the mass sprint, Duque remained close to the top three with Briton Mark Cavendish taking his third victory in this Tour de France. Thor Hushovd came in second, Tyler Farrar was third.
Duque, born in Cali and riding for French team Cofidus, is currently 123rd in the general classification and placed 15th in the points ranking. Rigoberto Uran, the only other Colombian in this year’s race, is to be found in 52nd place in the overall classification.
Duque gained international fame with a stage win in the 2007 edition of the Vuelta a España.
