Luis Carlos Restrepo, the peace commissioner who oversaw the demobilization of the AUC, was called to explain why he took part in fake acts of demobilization of paramilitary and guerrilla fighters.
Restrepo has been asked to give a voluntary testimony next Wednesday about two false demobilization processes in which hundreds of civilians pretended to be paramilitary and guerrilla fighters surrendering their weapons to authorities.
The former peace commissioner took part in these staged ceremonies, which were investigated by the Prosecutor General’s Office after former guerrillas and paramilitaries reported the fake demobilization processes.
Between 2003 and 2006, tens of thousands of members of the paramilitary AUC took part in a massive demobilization process. Since then, many of them have continued to lead a life of crime as part of neo-paramilitary drug gangs.
