Colombia’s Supreme Court sentenced a former governor of the Cesar department in northern Colombia to seven and a half years in prison for his involvement with paramilitary groups, reports W Radio.
Former governor Hernando Molina Araujo received a 90 month sentence, after the court found that there was sufficient evidence to link him with extradited paramilitary leader Rodrigo Tovar Tupo, alias “Jorge 40.”
According to former paramilitary Guillermo de Hoyos, alias “Memo,” Molina Araujo held several meetings with Jorge 40. Memo also said that during the election in which Molina Araujo become governor, paramilitaries threatened another candidate Cristian Moreno, who then gave up his candidacy.
