Former Bogota Mayor Luis E. Garzon said “I have nothing to hide,” during interrogations about his alleged knowledge of back-room deals with the Nule Group, newspaper El Tiempo reported Thursday.
Garzon, who was mayor of Bogota from 2004 to 2007, is among numerous officials and former officials of the capital being interrogated by the State Council about the fraudulent awarding of public works contracts to Colombian contractor the Nule Group.
The former mayor told the courts he never met with the Nule Group and did not make any agreement to deliver contracts to them, reported the newspaper.
“I have nothing to hide. If so I would be asking for the tenant of opportunity, as others are doing. I am going to give the necessary explanations before the court,” declared the former leader of the capital.
Among the officials being questioned are current Bogota Mayor Samuel Moreno and county comptroller Miguel Angel Moralesrussi.
