Food prices in Colombia stable despite agricultural strike

Despite agrarian strikes that are underway in Colombia since Monday, food prices have not been affected, said the country’s agriculture minister on Wednesday.

Minster of Agriculture Ruben Dario Lizarralde made a visit to Corabastos, Bogota’s main food supply center. During which Lizarralde confirmed that he will reconvene with agricultural representatives to seek progress in the resolving of the demands of the peasants.

After the first meeting, the minister described the talks with agricultural dignities as having an atmosphere of respect.

“We have been working in a very good atmosphere and have been in good spirits since this morning… We listened with open minds and held serious discussions – all of which were treated with great respect,” said the minister.

According to the manager of Corabastos, peasant demonstrations in some areas of the country have not affected the arrival of trucks with food to Bogota. “Sourcing is meeting established standards,” said the manager.

Lizarralde also stated that there has not been any disruption in the transportation of food to Bogota and other major cities. The claim coincided with W Radio that reported that on Wednesday 1085 vehicles carrying around 10,000 tons of food reached Corabastos.
