Cuba’s former President Fidel Castro said Friday that Colombia is further away from peace after the death of FARC military commander “Mono Jojoy” and the dismissal of dissident Senator Piedad Cordoba.
The 84-year-old communist told local press that the recent developments could cause “revolutionary” changes to happen more quickly.
“The news regarding the famous battle in which the FARC commander died … and the dismissal of Piedad Cordoba are far from bringing peace to Colombia. On the contrary, they could accelerate the revolutionary changes in that country,” Castro said.
The retired dictator said he wasn’t surprised by Inspector General Alejandro Ordoñez’s dismissal of Cordoba, who Castro considers “a valuable and intelligent person.”
“The decision taken by the inspector general is in line with the official policy in this country, which is virtually occupied by Yankee troops.”
Castro has a friendly relationship with Cordoba, and met with the Senator in August in Cuban capital Havana.
