Investigations into “Farcpolitics” – links between politicians and the guerrilla group FARC – are still going ahead despite important evidence being upheld as inadmissible by the Supreme Court, announced Colombia’s inspector general, newspaper El Espectador reported Tuesday.
Monday Colombia’s Supreme Court upheld its decision that documents obtained from the computers of slain FARC commander “Raul Reyes” were inadmissible as evidence in court as the computers were seized illegally.
Inspector General Alejandro Ordoñez Maldonado said that although he respects the decision of the Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court, he still considers the information found on the computers of Reyes to be legitimate.
This is because the criminal process is very different to the disciplinary process and that the way information is assessed by the Inspector General’s Office is distinct to that of the Supreme Court. Furthermore the two bodies evaluate from different perspectives.
Ordoñez Maldonado added that investigations into alleged links between various public servants and the FARC are supported by other material and not just evidence from the computers of Reyes. “There also exists the computer of ‘Ivan Rios,’ the computer of ‘Mono Jojoy’ … and more than 80 USB drives.”
