A large stack of war material allegedly belonging to the rebel group FARC was seized on Friday by the army in southern Colombia, newspaper El Espectador reported.
The army said that 26 automatic rifles, 40 artisanal explosives, 12 hand grenades, four landmines and other combat materials were seized from a hideout in Puerto Asis, a municipality in the Putumayo department close to Colombia’s border with Ecuador.
According to the army, the material was about to be distributed among the FARC fronts that operated in the area.
Puerto Asis is considered a strategic location for the FARC’s 48th Front, which has been believed to operate on both sides of the border. Ecuadorian authorities have previously denounced the recruitment of Ecuadorian minors into this front.
