Eight alleged FARC members, three of which are minors, have surrendered to Colombia’s army, local media reported.
According to Caracol Radio, the FARC members voluntarily laid down their arms and surrendered to Colombian troops in the northwestern department of Antioquia.
The demobilized guerrillas, comprising of seven fighters and their commander, are part of a squadron responsible for several ambushes and the planting of mines in the area. The unit allegedly belonged to FARC’s 36th Front.
Newscast CM& quoted one of the surrendered guerrillas as saying that, “we were totally tricked. First they look for men of lower means, they promised they were going to give us money, they were going to give us clothes, they were going to give us food, they were going to keep us ‘full’.”
The alleged guerrillas were transported to the city of Medellin where they will be questioned about their activities with the FARC.
