‘FARC’ strike Cauca police station, slay 1 officer

One police officer was killed early Wednesday and another three were injured during an alleged FARC raid on a police station in El Mango in the southwestern Colombian department of Cauca, newspaper El Espectador reported.

Authorities estimated that 60 FARC guerrillas assaulted the station at dawn armed with homemade explosives known as “tatucos.”

The victims were evacuated to a healthcare center in the department’s capital, Popayan. One of the wounded officers is reportedly in very poor health.

The municipality of El Mango is located along the strategic drug-trafficking route from Popayan to the Pacific Coast.
