FARC has released several photos of police officers involved in the 2008 operation that killed FARC commander Raul Reyes, the first ruling member of Colombia’s largest guerilla group to be killed in combat.
The guerilla group said the photos were found on the seized computer of an intelligence officer, according to local news reports. In one of the ten photos, police pose next to the clothes of the dead guerilla leader, also known as Luis Edgar Devia. He died in March 2008 with 16 other rebels during an attack near the Ecuadorian border.
In other photos, the police are shown smiling next to a poster that reads “mission impossible,” except the word “impossible” is crossed out with red marker. The officers are also seen posing with the front page of a newspaper announcing the death of the guerilla commander, according to Caracol Radio.
Authorities said they have been investigating since 2010 whether FARC could have obtained this sensitive information, which was confirmed Friday with the release of the photos.
