The FARC must be stopped so that Colombia can live peacefully, declared President Uribe in a radio interview on Wednesday.
When questioned with regard to the FARC’s recent statement in which it claimed responsibility for the December murder of the governor of Caqueta, Colombia’s head of state expressed his opinion that the guerrillas had to be stopped as they were liars, killers, thieves and buffoons, reported Colombian media.
During the interview Uribe stated his belief that “the narco-terrorist group FARC are murderers and liars. And they are cynical. They shed blood, and then continue writing official-sounding communications.”
“But we are not surprised. They have always lied … This group are bullies … And how sad that we have had to endure this nightmare from the FARC terrorist group. They have been harassing us for 50 years. They began in the early sixties,” continued Uribe.
The President compared the murder of the governor of Caqueta with the FARC’s dishonest conduct two years ago regarding the whereabouts of Emmanuel, the son of Ingrid Betancourt’s former associate, Clara Rojas.
Uribe also stressed his belief that there were Colombian members of the FARC who had gone to live in Europe and were graduating from universities and passing themselves off as doctors. He stated that these FARC sympathisers then present press releases in support of the guerrillas cause. Uribe denounced the sympathisers as “simply white-collared criminals … white-collared assassins.”
Uribe then referred to the recent video released by the FARC, “now they want to pass themselves off as farmers and workers. [The FARC] do not grow coca, what they do is exploit farmers by forcing them to grow coca and then they take the money earned.”
“And what they do is kill farmers and kill teachers and kill the governor and kill deputy officials, and now, with support from foreigners who helped them with a video, these murderers of the Colombian people want to pose as country folk,” concluded the president.
