FARC commander “Carlos Antonio Lozada” was not among the 36 suspected guerrillas killed Monday in a government military strike in central Colombia, El Tiempo reported Wednesday.
Forensic experts from the Institute of Legal Medecine determined that the corpse believed to have been Lozada’s did not belong to the FARC leader.
Lozada is the second in command of the FARC’s Eastern Bloc and alleged commander of the feared “Antonio Nariño” urban guerrilla network. His death would have struck a serious blow to the FARC secretariat.
Experts are still working to identify the remaining bodies. Some have speculated that the heads of the seventh and 45th fronts are among the dead.
Other media reported that the investigators need another four days to determine the identity of the fallen guerrillas.
