FARC guerrillas have killed one policeman and injured two others in a rural area in the southwest of Colombia, authorities said Friday.
The policemen were part of the security ring responsible for evacuating the villagers out of Roberto Payan, a village in the department of Nariño, reported radio station Caracol.
The police came under fire, and were afterwards rushed to Tumaco Hospital to receive treatment.
The attack was seen as retaliation against the air strike that the Colombian Air Force carried out Thursday against the FARC. At least four guerrillas died during this attack, which took place in La Victoria, also in Nariño. The newly appointed commander of Farc’s 48th Front, alias “Euclid,” reportedly was among the deaths.
Nariño’s security defenses are on alert to avoid further retaliations by the FARC.
