The first ever investigation into land theft by the FARC in southern Colombia alleges the guerrillas have stolen 185,329 acres of land.
Most of the stolen land was park land in the departments of Caqueta and Meta. The rebels used it to grow coca, the base material for cocaine, or sold it to farmers to work for them, according to the investigation reported by Radio Caracol.
The authorities are investigating several public officials on charges of collaborating with terrorists.
The Superintendent of Notaries and Registration said land deeds had been “cloned or falsified land deeds in favor of supposed farmers, which later ended up in the hands of guerrillas.”
