The recently deceased founder of Colombian guerrilla group FARC, Manuel
‘Tirofijo’ Marulanda, will have a square named after him in the
Venezuelan capital Caracas, leftist Venezuelan groups announced Wednesday.
The square, currently constructed in the west of Caracas will have a statue of the rebel leader, honoring his life and fight against the Colombian government.
“It’s a matter of pride to be able to help construct a hommage to this comrade,” Zeniada Tahhan of the Bolivarian Continental Coordinate (CCB) told newspaper El Espectador.
The statue will be revealed by the leader of the Chilean Communist Party and Secretary General of the CCB, Carlso Casanueva.
The CCB movement, active in many Latin American countries is suspected of being alligned with the FARC. Colombian authorities say the FARC founded the organization and still leads the Bolivarian movement.
