Authorities intercepted a truck loaded with explosives in the Colombian department of Cauca, the fourth attempted bomb attack in three days.
Following the deaths of 18 people in several bombings Wednesday and Thursday, security forces were on high alert.
Cauca governor Themistocles Ortega said, “Checkpoints and roadblocks allowed us to intercept a truck that was meant to enter the town of Miranda (…). The terrorists could not continue their journey and the vehicle was detonated in a controlled manner.”
Two people were slightly injured during the operation.
The FARC has claimed responsibility for Wednesday’s bombing in Tumaco, which killed 11 people.
Other people died on Wednesday and Thursday in bomb attacks in the western town of Villa Rica and the town of Cajamarca, in the Tolima department.
A grenade attack on an airport in Santa Barbara de Iscuandua also killed a minor.
President Juan Manuel Santos has called the FARC “hypocrites” for carrying out such attacks weeks after proposing new peace talks.
