The FARC launched two cylinder bombs at a school in northern Antioquia, causing damage to the school and surrounding properties but no injuries, El Colombiano reported Wednesday.
Army officials explained that guerrillas from the FARC’s 36th Front fired two unconventional explosive pump cylinders, with shrapnel attached, at a school in Campamento, Antioquia, where 40 children between 5 and 17 years old were attending classes.
The explosives landed just five meters from the school but only caused damage to the institution and seven nearby properties.
“According to military intelligence, the attack is the product of the strategic plan to revive mine warfare by Front 36 of the FARC that operates in the sub-region of northeastern Antioquia,” said the army.
Anti-explosive experts rushed to the scene to ensure there were no further bombs, while the army condemned the attack as a grave violation of international human rights law.
