Left-wing guerrilla group FARC has hijacked a cattle truck, attached explosives, and positioned it to block the road connecting the central Colombian Huila and Caqueta departments, Colombian media reported Tuesday.
Authorities believe that explosive devices are inside to the vehicle, but have not yet determined if the suspected guerrillas have armed the explosives.
“Inside the car are bins that are supposedly loaded with explosives,” the Army commander of the Huila department, Colonel Jose Maria Losada, was reported as saying by El Tiempo.
The truck, which is believed to have been stolen Sunday afternoon, is blocking the road at a point called Santa Helena, approximately a two-hour drive from the city of Neiva. The area has been blocked off on all sides by a radius of at least three miles.
The cattle truck is marked with FARC emblems, including the spray-painted message “Danger FARC-EP” on the side of the vehicle.
The FARC’s 17th Front is known to operate in the area.
