Rebels of the FARC have attacked six villages in the southwest of Colombia over the weekend, local media reported Sunday.
According to newspaper El Tiempo, one soldier was killed when the FARC launched a self-made missile at a dam in the village of La Salvajina. According to Caracol Radio, two soldiers were injured in that attack.
The radio station reported combat between guerrillas and army forces in both La Salvajina and Jambalo.
El Tiempo additionally reported explosives attacks on a military base in the village of Los Pinos and the village center of Corinto.
According to the newspaper, the FARC also attacked the village of Caloto and fighting between state troops and insurgents erupted in the municipality of Caldono.
Fighting between state forces and FARC guerrillas are common in the Cauca department, which is considered a crucial drug route from central Colombia to the Pacific and traditionally a stronghold of the FARC.
