The FARC assigned ‘Pablo Catatumbo’ as their mediator to discuss the
exchange of prisoners with the Colombian Government, opposition senator
Piedad Córdoba said Sunday.
‘Pablo Catatumbo’ became member’s of the guerrilla’s secretariat after the death of founder and supreme leader ‘Manuel Marulanda’.
Piedad Córdoba, whose group ‘Colombians for Peace’ brokered the release of six hostages earlier this year, said she is waiting for a letter of the FARC, but already knows about the rebels’ representative.
According to the opposition senator, the FARC will shortly announce the place where the rebels want to discuss the exchange of prisoners. “They will move to a site where they will invite the Government to join them, but they will need security guarantees for that,” Córdoba said.
The Colombian Government has never agreed with the humanitarian exchange the FARC are pressing for. The rebels want to release 22 members of the security forces in exchange for the release of guerrillas held in both Colombian and U.S. prisons.
