The family of three children who were allegedly raped, tortured and killed by the military will be relocated in order to ensure their safety after receiving death threats, El Espectador reports Friday.
The children, aged 6, 9 and 14, were murdered in October 2010, with members of the military heavily suspected of being involved in their deaths after first subjecting them to abuse and torture.
The threats were apparently targeted at Jose Alvaro Torres, the father of the three children, who has been an outspoken critic of the way the case has been handled and has accused the authorities of a cover-up.
The family are due to be relocated to Bogota, with their arrival expected tomorrow, where they will then be assigned a special security scheme for their own protection.
This latest development comes just days after the assassination of the judge in charge of the case against the military. Gloria Constanza Gaona was murdered in the northern department of Arauca, just 43 miles from where the three children were found.
