Falcao scores 1st goal for Monaco

You could see the passion on Radamel Falcao’s face after the Colombian captain marked his first official goal in a Monaco uniform in his first official game with his new team.

The goal came in the 87′ minute, just after substitute Emanuel Riviere opened the scoring, when Monaco’s new #9 won a 50-50 battle near the touchline and pounced on the ensuing loose ball with a diving left-footed finish from the righthand corner of the six-yard box.

It capped a solid 2-0 road win against Bordeaux in the Ligue 1’s newest team’s season opener. But perhaps more importantly, it gave a bit of breathing space to a player who has come under a lot of scrutiny for not moving to a bigger club this past summer, and will continue to play under the spotlight for the duration of the season.

It was the first clear chance to come his way all game, and Falcao put it away with the same cool precision we have come to expect from one of the world’s top goalscorers.

Joining the elaborate celebrations behind the goal was fellow Colombian James Rodriguez, who started and played a strong 90 minutes, in what was his first game with the French side as well.
