Falcao in the dark over Monaco transfer

by Johnny Crisp May 16, 2013

Radamel Falcao on Thursday claimed he “knows nothing” about his reported $77 million move to French club AS Monaco, and describing himself as “at the margin” of what has been said about his future.

The transfer the Colombian striker to Monaco, backed by Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybovlev, was widely reported during the week and the French club’s goalkeeper, Danijel Subasic claimed Thursday that players have been told the deal is “90% done”, barring an “unlikely” last minute move from Real Madrid.

However the move now appears to be less certain than it seemed in midweek, with the player himself denying any knowledge of the transfer. “My only focus now is Atletico Madrid” said Falcao at a press conference at the Bernabeu, where the striker known as “El Tigre” will take to the field on Friday for the Spanish Cup final against rivals Real.

When asked if the game could be his last appearance in an Atletico shirt, the 27 year old Colombian reiterated the lack of certainty over where he will be playing his football next season.

“I don’t know anything…for me these reports have no credibility… According to media I have signed for half of Europe; for Chelsea, Manchester United, Real Madrid” he said, pointing to the three years he has left on his contract and dismissing the rest as “speculation.”

Before joining Atletico Madrid in 2011, Falcao played for Portuguese side FC Porto and Argentine giants River Plate.

The Santa Marta-born player started his career at Lanceros Boyaca, a team active in Colombia’s second highest league.
