A Colombian judge sentences extradited paramilitary boss “Jorge 40” to 47 years in jail for the November 2000 massacre of 40 civilians in the Magdalena department.
The judge ruled that the former commander of the AUC’s Northern Bloc is responsible for ordering the murder and forced displacement of fisherman from the villages of Nueva Venecia, El Morro, Tamaca and Caño Clarin, all on Colombia’s Caribbean coast.
Jorge 40, whose real name is Rodrigo Tover Pupo, is currently in the U.S., but has disappeared from the public court records. Because information on the Jorge 40’s case is sealed, there is no way to know if he negotiated a lenient sentence or even is he is still in custody.
Before disappearing, Jorge 40, the paramilitary leader who allegedly had the most ties to Colombian politicians and businessmen, suspended all cooperation with Colombian justice, because of “threats against his family.”
