Colombia’s justice minister said Wednesday extradited FARC member “Simon Trinidad” could take part in peace talks between the government and rebels next week.
Justice minister Ruth Stella Correa told press it could be “legally viable” and possible to allow FARC member Juvenal Ovidio Ricardo Palmera Pineda, alias Simon Trinidad, to take part in the upcoming peace talks through use of a teleconference between the Norwegian capital of Oslo, where the talks are held, and the guerrilla’s maximum security prison in the United States.
The minister stressed however that this possibility depends on the U.S. government who will have to decide whether or not to allow Trinidad access to a video connection.
The FARC have demanded the extradited commander to take part in the peace talks.
The United States have previously allowed extradited members of now-demobilized paramilitary organization AUC to take part in Colombian court cases through video conferencing.
