Pretelt De La Vega must respond to allegations made by Medina that the ex-minister was one of the Uribe administration members, who offered her political favours in exchange for a positive vote about a constitutional change needed to speed up the re-election of Colombian President Álvaro Uribe in 2006.Medina is currently in jail awaiting sentence for bribery. She admitted to have changed her vote for personal gain.The former congresswoman told investigators Pretelt De La Vega had approached her during a meeting in the House of Representatives, offering “to take care of her security and the security of her children”.On another occasion Medina was called to the presidential palace and met with Pretelt De La Vega, President Uribe and members of the presidential staff. In that meeting “they expressed their concern about my vote and asked what I wanted in return for supporting the bill,” Medina claims.During that meeting, Medina says, Pretelt De La Vega explicitly mentioned the possibility of offering her a consulate.Pretelt De La Vega has repeatedly denied having offered bribes. In response to the request to appear he said to be “pleased to be called to give my testimony under oath”.
