The former Mayor of Cartagena, Judith Pinedo Florez, faces charges over irregularities in the appointment of officials, reported Colombian media Monday.
The appointments, during her 2008-2011 tenure, apparently failed to comply with statutory and regulatory requirements. They include the naming of Luis Ernesto Araujo Rumi as Secretary of the Mayor’s Office and Vivian Juan Eljaiek as Secretary of the Treasury of the municipality.
The charges were brought by the Attorney General as a result of a complaint filed by a member of the public, following a request for details of the educational and professional backgrounds of those appointed.
The complaint affirms that appointees were not sufficiently experienced for their positions and that the Office of the Mayor of Cartagena failed to respond in a timely manner to the information request, first made in 2008.
