Ex-lover accuses Shakira of lying to court

Shakira’s ex, Antonio de la Rua, accuses her of presenting “false and misleading” statements to the court to avoid paying out.

Caracol Radio gained access to the seven-page document, which gave details of the lawsuit against Shakira by her ex-boyfriend, seeking $100 million compensation for managing her career.

Antonio de la Rua claimed that the couple worked for seven years together on a global company now worth hundreds of millions of dollars. He said he is entitled to a share, but the singer has avoided his attempts to resolve the legal dispute.

“I have made several attempts through a lawyer to resolve the case with Shakira personally. At best, these attempts were met with silence, and at worst, hostility,” claimed the son of former Argentine President Fernando de la Rua.

In the document, de la Rua stated that Shakira has presented “false and misleading” information to the courts and consistently failed to acknowledge the truth.

“Since November 2011, Miss Mebarak has apparently adopted a strategy of trying to re-write history and avoided providing to me the benefits  to which I have a right,” he said.

The Colombian pop star, however, filed a counter-lawsuit against the Argentine, accusing him of taking $3 million from her and spending a further $500,000 on a credit card. According to her claim, she gave him work because he was unemployed, but they were never business partners.

The lawsuit was officially filed on January 15, 2013 to the Supreme Court in New York. The document reveals that de la Rua called for the seizure of the singer’s Swiss bank account to prevent her from hiding her assets.

Antonio de la Rua, dated the Colombian pop star for over a decade until they split in 2011.
