The EU and Colombia have signed an agreement valued at over $12 million, aimed at combating corruption in the South American country, local media reported Tuesday.
According to the EU delegation in Colombia, the agreement’s stated goals are to increase transparency and public integrity and to lower corruption across the country.
The project was presented by the EU Ambassador in Colombia, Antonia van Gool, the Colombian Secretary of Transparency, Rafael Maria Merchan, and the Viceminister of Exterior Relations, Monica Lanzetta.
“The fight against corruption doesn’t just need an adequate regulatory framework, but also the active participation of all actors within society,” said van Gool in regards to participation from all citizens of the northern Andean country to fight corruption in addition to national political measures.
