European Union (E.U.) Ambassador to Colombia Fernando Cardessa said Tuesday that the recent decision by Venezuela to break diplomatic ties with Colombia was an unjustified breach of obligations in the fight against terrorism, reports Caracol.
In late July Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez severed all ties with Colombia, following Colombia’s allegations before the Organization of American States that there are 87 guerrilla camps in Venezuelan territory.
The E.U. ambassador disagreed with the decision and said that harboring terrorists was unacceptable.
Cardessa confirmed that $9 million would be donated by the EU for the reparation of victims involved in Colombia’s Justice and Peace process.
While the ambassador highlighted the successes of the Justice and Peace process, he stressed the importance of moving past reparation to a period of forgiveness and reconciliation.
