A recent survey has indicated that if Bogota’s mayoral elections were held tomorrow, three candidates would receive about the same number of votes, reported newspaper El Tiempo Monday.
The survey, which was conducted by pollster Napoleon Franco, estimated that the former mayor and Green Party candidate Enrique Peñalosa would recieve 22% of the votes, socialist candidate Gustavo Petro would revieve 20% of the votes, and independent candidate Gina Parody would receive 18%.
With a 4% margin of error in the survey, the results do not indicate a clear leader in the race to the elections.
Polls held earlier also indicated a neck-and-neck race between Peñalose, who is endorsed by former President Alvaro Uribe, and Petro, who while in the senate, fiercely opposed the conservative policies of the former President.
Bogota will elect a successor to suspended mayor Samuel Moreno in October. The leftist mayor is facing criminal charges for corruption.
