The president of the Colombian Truckers Association (ACC) said he will meet with the Transport Minister Tuesday afternoon to discuss ending the trucker strike.
Caracol Radio reported Tuesday that Pedro Antonio Aguilar the head of the ACC will meet with Transportation Minister German Cardona in the afternoon to discuss a possible end to the trucker strike that has persisted since February 3.
In addition Aguilar announced that the trucks that have been obstructing important roads in Bogota since Monday afternoon will be removed when authorities release truckers that were arrested for this protest.
A report earlier Tuesday from El Espectador said that Transport Minister Cardona advised the truckers that he would not sit down to discuss strike issues without a lifting of the blockades.
“The unemployed trucker cannot be stopped. I’ll talk to my colleagues to decide whether or not to raise the blockades,” said ACC director Ricardo Virviescas.
Vice President Angelino Garzon will meet with the ACC leader at 5:00 PM Tuesday in effort to try and lift the blockade in Bogota reported Caracol.
Truckers have been striking for nearly two weeks in protest of President Santo’s decision to not overturn a reform that eliminates fixed freight rates for truckers.
