A supposed attack by left-wing rebel group ELN in the north of Colombia has left two soldiers dead and four more wounded, reported media Thursday.
The soldiers, belonging to the Army’s 4th Brigade, were ambushed while on patrol in Segovia, a municipality in Colombia’s northwestern Antioquia department, authorities said.
The four wounded soldiers were taken to hospital in the city of Segovia and their lives were considered out of danger as of Friday morning.
The Segovia municipality sees the presence of the ELNs Jose Antonio Galan Front, in addition to two fronts from the larger rebel group FARC.
According to the conflict monitoring NGO Nuevo Arco Iris, The rebel group has some 100 guerrilla fighters in the area of the attack.
ELN, founded in 1964, is Colombia’s second largest rebel group with an estimated 3.000 armed members.
