Hernan Dario Gomez, nicknamed ‘El Bolillo’ is the new manager of the Colombia national soccer team.
The Colombian football association announced Wednesday that Gomez is to be the successor of Eduardo Lara, who left the selection after failing to qualify for this year’s World Cup.
El Bolillo will be assisted by Medellin manager Leonel Alvarez, as well as Elkin Sanchez and Eduardo Niño.
The new staff set a target of bringing back the original Colombian style, which helped leading the team to three consecutive World Cups in the 1990s.
Gomez has a convincing record as manager, having coached club teams as Atletico Nacional and Santa Fe.
Moreover, the coach also led Colombia to the 1998 World Cup and repeated the same with Ecuador four years later. Between 2006 and 2008, he had a less successful spell at Guatemala.
The qualification campaign for the 2014 Brazil World Cup starts later this year.
