The Ecuadorean government Monday denied Colombian claims investigators of Colombia’s
prosecution were abducted by members of the FARC on Ecuadorean soil
Friday.
According to Security Minister Gustavo Larrea, Ecuadorean security forces “did not report any movement in the area.” Larrea said the army did increase patrols in the border area after Bogotá denounced the abductions of the Colombians.
Uribe Sunday said the FARC had kidnapped the group in Pueblo Nuevo, a town close to the Colombian border and would ask assistance from Ecuador.
“According to the report of the Pueblo Nuevo authorities, there has been no indication that there has been anything but absolute normality,” the Ecuadorean minister said.
Ecuador and Colombia have no direct diplomatic contact after the Colombian army bombed a FARC camp, killing FARC commander Raúl Reyes and 25 others on Ecuadorean soil in May.
