Colombian state oil company Ecopetrol denies that a Dutch court seized
7 billion euro (US$ 10 million) worth of assets in the Netherlands, as claimed by the
lawyer of Llanos Oil, a Dutch-British company with oil interests in
Colombia.
“Ecopetrol has not been notified of any judicial proceedings in the Netherlands and is not aware of any legal action that is taking place in that country,” the oil company said in a press statement.
Last week, the lawyer of Llanos Oil–a company owned by a Dutch oil engineer who’s currently serving 20 years in a Colombian prison for whitewashing money for the AUC–said a Dutch court has frozen all assets of Ecopetrol, because the Dutch-British company says the Colombian oil company breached a contract illegally.
Ecopetrol stocks plummeted 6.6 percent on the news Monday.
