An earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale shook central and south Colombia Thursday afternoon.
The quake was felt in the nation’s capital Bogota, as well as the departments of Caqueta, Valle, Huila, Antioquia, Cundinamarca and the coffee growing region.
Reports indicate that the quake’s epicenter was five kilometers outside of the town of Ortega, in Colombia’s central Tolima department.
So far there have not been any reports of damage of injury, although telecommunications services are reported to have been affected. Emergency services are on alert. However phone contact with Ortega authorities has not yet been established.
Bogota’s fire fighting service did not report any major disturbances, although some office and apartment buildings were evacuated.
