With Colombian soccer team Santa Fe cruising to victory against Brazilians Botafogo in the Copa Sudamericana, the match was brought to a halt by an unusual field invader – a rather agile dog.
The canny canine managed to evade capture for over three minutes as both players and stewards attempted to hoist or pet him off the field.
One bright spark steward almost succeeded in removing the manic mutt by waving a red rag in front of him, until the dog presumably remembered what happens to bulls when they fall for that trick.
Eventually, after one of the most successful field invasions of the year, the dog made his own way off the field and into the stands of its own accord.
Despite the distraction, Santa Fe won the match comfortably after dominating throughout the game.
Santa Fe took an early lead with Oscar Rodas netting after two minutes and never looked back. Just six minutes later Omar Perez doubled that lead and a shell shocked Botafogo were down and out.
On the stroke of half time an own goal from Leo made it 3-0 before a second half strike from Rodas removed any doubt. Botafogo did grab a late consolation goal from Alexandre, but it was too little too late.
After a first leg 1-1 draw, the result means Santa Fe comfortably progress to the quarter finals, where they will meet Argentine team Velez Sarsfield.
