The controversial National Integration Party has filed criminal charges against Colombia’s Prosecutor General Viviane Morales, following allegations her husband was an adviser to illegal armed groups, reported local media Tuesday.
Ex-senator Carlos Alonso Lucio and former M-19 guerrilla was allegedly an unofficial adviser to groups including the right-wing AUC during the paramilitary organization’s demobilization processes.
German Blanco, the president of the Accusation Commission of the Chamber of Representatives – the organization charged with carrying out the investigation – said “There are no specific crimes. [The case] simple states the Prosecutor General is married to Lucio; [this] has questions of legal character that the commission wants to clarify.”
Morales became the center of controversy after announcing she will prosecute former Peace Commissioner Luis Carlos Restrepo for falsifying the demobilization of a non-existing FARC front.
The PIN is controversial because of its links to politicians who are in jail for links to paramilitary death squads.
