The nearly 2,000 displaced, who occupied the Parque Tercer Milenio in
Bogota for more than 140 days, left the park peacefully Monday.
After the displaced and the Bogota mayor signed an agreement Friday wherein the city of Bogota promised to deliver humanitarian
aid and to earmark funds for labor projects for the refugees, the
displaced started to clear the park Sunday.
The evacuation of the park took 26 hours, 35 trucks and 22 buses that took the displaced to their temporarily new homes in Ibague, Villavicencio, Tumaco, Antioquia, Valle del Cauca and Magdalena Medio.
According to the government secretary Clara Lopez, 1421 displaced families already received humanitarian aid. 404 more displaced will receive aid this week.
The displaced had occupied the park for more than four months, while Bogota and the national
government were fighting over who was responsible over the care of the
refugees of Colombia’s violent conflict.
